Bringing a Global Conservation Movement to the Heart of Boston.
The Great Elephant Migration (GEM) is a global public art and conservation initiative featuring 100 life-size elephant sculptures, created by Indigenous artisans from the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve in India. In summer 2026, the herd arrived in Boston’s Commonwealth Avenue Mall — and Kortenhaus led the media relations, strategic communications and community engagement efforts to bring the story to life.
OUR APPROACH
We developed and executed a comprehensive communications strategy to generate awareness, drive attendance and highlight the mission behind GEM — human-wildlife coexistence.
Secured wide-ranging media coverage across print, broadcast, digital, radio, arts, travel and lifestyle outlets.
Coordinated press experiences, artist interviews and on-site media opportunities throughout the installation.
Partnered with key stakeholders including The ’Quin House, City of Boston, Meet Boston and the Boston Art Commission.
Amplified the stories of the Indigenous artisans and the real elephants that inspired the sculptures.
Developed ongoing content to engage local audiences and extend the story beyond Boston.
