CASE STUDY: THE EDDY

East Boston is quickly becoming Boston’s next hot new neighborhood. With spectacular harbor views, luxury condos and apartment buildings are being developed along the waterfront.  Gerding Edlen was the first developer to build a 230 luxury apartment complex at the edge of Lo Presti Park.

Not only inspired by its definition of being a circular movement of water, counter to the main current, research shows that a Robert Henry Eddy, an architect and civil engineer, once worked for the East Boston Company, surveying and drawing several plans of East Boston

to establish land and water lots. The Eddy name derived from Anglo-Saxon heritage is also rooted in words meaning success and happiness.

Kortenhaus used those brand elements to curate and commission a group of artists, many working and living in East Boston, for the public spaces.  A cornerstone of the art was a commissioned hand-blown series of stained glass murals that are suspended against the lobby windows.  The light and reflection from the outside spill into the public areas creating a stunning rainbow effect.
